Get Representation You Choose

There are things home buyers can do to ensure that they are being represented by the Realtor® of their choice. A few simple steps protect you against procuring cause rules that can obligate you to a real estate agent you do not know and trust. Don't give up your right to the exclusive buyer agent advantage.

Two Things You Must Tell the Agent

To ensure that you get to choose who represents you in the eventual purchase of the property, there are two things you must tell the agent present at an open house.

As soon as you enter the property, tell the agent:

"I am being represented by a real estate agent."

"The real estate agent who is representing me told me about this property."

You may then ask the real estate if he or she minds if you walk through the home. A professional Realtor® will probably say yes without a problem or questions for you.

Other Precautions

When a Realtor asks you to register, make sure you also write that you already have representation. If you are represented by The Home Buyers, Inc., for example, you would write, "Referred and represented by The Home Buyers, Inc."
